Austrian tenor Florian Thomas studied voice  in Vienna at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst and has a background in law and musicology. He is now performing as a soloist in oratorio, concert and opera, also giving Lieder recitals in Austria, Italy, Germany the UK and Australia. In 2018 Florian appeared as Erik in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer under Anthony Negus, successfully jumping in at short notice for Longborough Festival Opera. He was the tenor soloist in Richard Blackford’s cantata Voices of Exile with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Gavin Carr and sang the role of Don José in Bizet’s Carmen for the Dartington Festival under conductor David Angus. Together with the acclaimed Argentine pianist Alberto Portugheis, he recently performed Schubert’s Lieder cycle “Die Winterreise” in Oxford, where he is based. In August 2019 Florian sang the role of Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in a new production London for Fulham Opera under Ben Woodward. Future engagements include the tenor part in Gustav Mahler's: "Das Lied von der Erde" in London.

Prior to launching a solo career, Florian gained extensive experience on the operatic stage at the highest professional level. While living in Vienna he appeared at the Vienna State Opera, at the Salzburg Festival and in numerous international tours with the Wiener Staatsopernchor and the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor under conductors such as Peter Schneider, Kirill Petrenko, Ingo Metzmacher, Asher Fisch etc. In these contexts, Florian was also regularly selected to perform minor solo roles such as; Leopold (“Der Rosenkavalier”), Ambrogio (“Il barbiere di Sevilla”), Guard (“From the house of the Dead”), Mill worker (“Lady Macbeth from Mzensk”), Deputato (“Don Carlo”), Customs Sergeant (“La bohème”). Florian additionally served as member of the Hofmusikkapelle Wien during this time, regularly singing as a soloist with conductors including Franz Welser- Möst, Erwin Ortner and Johannes Prinz, and he appeared in oratorios and masses in major venues; Musikverein Wien, Konzerthaus Wien, Stephansdom Wien, Dom Graz and Dom Wiener Neustadt among them.

Florian Thomas moved to Berlin in 2020 and works from there.
